Over the course of the year, we continuously built on our project by arranging meetings. Our earlier meetings consisted of sharing ideas and getting to know each other as individuals so that, as a team, we could make much more progress. To further improve our communication, we created a group chat, so even when a member could not attend the meetings, they remained informed. Due to the variation in classes and after school responsibilities that all of us have, it was important we all acknowledged the times that worked best for us. Despite the college classes, jobs, and home responsibilities that we have, every girl managed to participate and bring our ideas to life in the best way possible. When we weren’t meeting together after school, we would meet in between classes, or meet during the weekends. Once we had reached the decision to arrange our women’s conference, we began to prepare the various details of the conference. As students, we really wanted to highlight solutions to the problems that we often face. We found it important to not only recognize the importance of the physical well being, but also battle the stigma against mental health. With these ideas in mind, we created the stress ball stations, vision board station, bracelet station, and included a photo booth and a Zumba session. As we developed the planning, we repeatedly met with the principal, Ms. Young, to see which dates would best correlate with any openings for an event. There were times in which the dates we proposed weren’t a possibility and yet, we continued to work with her to find something that would work best. Eventually we were able to set the date and began to prepare the details of the event. The week prior to the event, we stayed after school and worked by hand on all of the posters that would be displayed at the conference. We also finished some final aspects that needed to be refined so that everything would be taken care of by the Saturday to come. The day of the conference was a total success by the end and an accomplishment to be remembered was made amongst us.
